The W-DMX system is a user-friendly and reliable way of transmitting and receiving DMX wirelessly. Multiple transmitters and receivers can be used in close proximity as they will not interfere with each other. The standard configuration uses 512 DMX channels, however systems can be set to support up to 16 universes or 8,192 DMX channels. The W-DMX system supports both Multi-Point and Point-To-Point operation. In a multipoint system, each DMX512 device has its own receiver, which negates the need for DMX512 cable as the entire system is wireless. In a Point-To-Point situation, W-DMX is used to 'bridge' a distance. It is easy to use with a lightweight compact size and interchangeable antennas.

The technology was invented by the US Military and is used in the GSM networks as well. It uses Adaptive Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS), which changes frequency 1000 times per second and uses only channels that are not used by other W-Lan and/or other products on 2.45Ghz band. Additionally, Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) gives the user a guarantee for a much safer technology without interference.
